Officer pulls over "suspicious" vehicle last Wednesday

WAREHAM - Last Wednesday, while patroling the area of Old Onset Road and Midway Street around 5:30 p.m., Officer Bryan Whalen noticed a "suspicious" vehicle with three adults males inside.  According to a Wareham police release, Officer Whalen pulled the driver over on Onset Ave. for having defective equipment.

During the stop, officers found more than two ounces of marijuana in a sandwich bag and $1,562 in cash on the driver, 23-year-old Sonny Tavares of Wareham. Tavares and one of the two passengers, Chad Turner, 22, of Onset, were both placed under arrest and the car was towed from the scene. The third man in the car was not arrested, police said.

Tavares and Turner were charged with possession of marijuana over one ounce.  Tavares was also found to be in violation of his parole. Both men were arraigned in Wareham 4th District Court the following day, according to police.
