St. Bonaventure expected to go solo

Church plannning reorganization of parishes

St. Bonaventure Church in Manomet will remain a stand-alone parish under a reorganization plan being developed by the Boston Archdiocese.

According to The Patriot Ledger, a plan is being developed that would group parishes into groups that could share resources and clergy. St. Agatha in Milton and St. Mary of the Nativity in Scituate are the only other churches on the South Shore that would not be put into a group.

A draft document on a church website places Plymouth’s other three Catholic churches in a group with Our Lady of Lourdes in Carver. Holy Family in Duxbury and St. Joseph in Kingston would be in a group together, as would Our Lady of the Lake in Halifax and St. Joseph the Worker in Hanson. St. Patrick in Wareham is under the jurisdiction of the Fall River Diocese and is not part of the reorganization.

A series of what have been dubbed “consultations” are taking place to allow local leadership to give their input. A meeting by Archdiocese officials with local parish councils is scheduled for March 22 at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Church in Duxbury.
