Patriot-Ledger endorses Bill Keating

Patriot-Ledger endorses Bill Keating in 9th District Congressional race

He has proven himself a capable representative of the people

Bourne resident Bill Keating and his wife Tevi in the Chatham 4th. of July parade. The Patriot-Ledger today endorsed incumbent Congressman Bill Keating saying, "Though having served only one term in Congress, Keating has proven himself a capable representative of the people. He has been remarkably effective on issues such as homeland security."

The newspaper adds, "His prosecutorial experience served him well as a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security and ranking member of the Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations and Management.

"It was Keating who held Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano accountable for lapses in perimeter safety at airports, while challenging the Transportation Security Administration on its overly aggressive searches of passengers, comparing the two situations to 'locking all the doors on your house but leaving the windows open.'”

Among the reasons for the Ledger's endorsement are:

  • Keating’s advocacy for our maritime industry, which goes far beyond fishing, recognizes that capitalizing on the region’s natural resources is our best bet for protecting our environment and creating jobs.
  • He listened when his constituents expressed their concern about the relicensing of Plymouth’s Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station by joining forces with U.S. Rep. Edward Markey to hold Entergy, the power plant’s owner, to higher safety standards.
  • His advocacy for our maritime industry, which goes far beyond fishing, recognizes that capitalizing on the region’s natural resources is our best bet for protecting our environment and creating jobs.

The endorsement ends belittling his two opponents saying, "Neither Republican nominee Christopher Sheldon nor independent candidate Daniel Botelho expressed an articulate agenda for either southeastern Massachusetts or the nation."
