Mahoney died at 4 a.m. at Rhode Island Hospital. Brendon's brother, 19-year-old Brian P. Mahoney, remains in critical condition at the hospital.

Just after 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning, Wareham police officers responded to the area of Priscilla Avenue for a reported double stabbing.  The brothers, both suffering from stab wounds, were lying in the dirt at the intersection of Priscilla Avenue and Hardy Street.

An investigation conducted by Wareham police and State Police detectives assigned to the Plymouth District Attorney's Office led to the arrest of a lone suspect, 18-year-old Bryan Grassie of 16 Bartlett Lane in East Wareham. Grassie was arrested without incident at the home of a relative in Plymouth just before 9 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Grassie was charged with two counts assault with intent to murder and two counts assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.  An amended charge of murder is expected, police said. The Plymouth County DA's Office has yet to set an arraignment date regarding the amended charge.
