All the holiday shopping and shipping is good for the economy, but along with it comes lots of excess bags and packaging that usually just gets thrown away.  About a third of America’s nonhazardous waste is packaging materials, or enough to cover of all of Philadelphia in a foot of paper.  Packaging amounts to roughly 18% of household waste, much of which cannot be recycled and goes to the landfill instead.
