A Wareham police officer interviews the girlfriend of one of the men at a town boat launch.

WAREHAM - Authorities  conducted a large-scale water search for two boaters who had reportedly been missing since Sunday.  The two unidentified men departed from a Wareham boat launch yesterday, according to a Wareham fire official.

The two men were hoisted and transported to Air Station Cape Cod by an MH-60 Jayhawk crew after being located by a crew from Station Woods Hole around 1 p.m.

Naushon Island is on Buzzards Bay in the Elizabeth Islands off Woods Hole.

The Coast Guard as well as members of the Wareham, Onset, Marion and Falmouth Fire Departments were searching a large area on Buzzards Bay at the mouth of the Cape Cod Canal.

The Coast Guard received an overdue notification from the girlfriend of one of the men at 2:30 a.m. Monday morning. The man had reportedly called his girlfriend from his cell phone and told her he and his passenger had become disoriented.

The men beached their 16-foot fishing boat on Naushon Island and waited for help, according to the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard and Wareham police are investigating.
