In 2003 Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks said that she was "ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."
Country Music stations across the United States pulled the Dixie Chicks from playlists with the station managers saying their decisions were prompted by calls from irate listeners who thought criticism of the president was unpatriotic.
